- GMDN category: Catheter, cardiac, balloon, thermal dilution
Intended purpose
Swan-Ganz thermodilution catheters are indicated for the assessment of a patient's haemodynamic condition through direct intracardiac and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring, cardiac output determination, by bolus thermodilution, sampling of mixed venous blood and for infusing solutions. The catheter is intended to be used by clinicians in a critical care environment for critically ill patients, including paediatric patients.
Functional description
The VIP Thermodilution Catheter provides diagnostic information to rapidly determine haemodynamic pressures using bolus thermodilution measurements when used with a compatible cardiac output computer. It is a balloon tipped catheter that is inserted in a large vein and floated into the pulmonary artery. The 5 lumen catheter includes a proximal injectate port, venous infusion port and provides direct access to the right atrium. It is made from medical grade PVC designed to soften in vivo.
