- GMDN category: Catheter, neurological, ventricular
Intended purpose
Intended for use in the treatment of hydrocephalus as a component of a shunt system when draining or shunting of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is indicated.
Functional description
The ARES catheters are impregnated with 0.054wt% rifampicin (rifampin) and 0.150wt% clindamycin hydrochloride (clindamycin) to reduce the colonization of gram positive bacteria on the tubing surface. The antibiotic agents are uniformly loaded (infused) into the catheters. In situ, the antibiotic agents are slowly dissolved and eluted from the catheter into the area immediately adjacent to the implant.
