- GMDN category: Dental bone matrix implant, animal-derived
Intended purpose
Geistlich Bio-Oss Collagen is intended to be used in the treatment of hard tissue defects in oral-maxillofacial surgery. Geistlich Bio-Oss Collagen is indicated in the following clinical situations: Bone deficiencies in the alveolar ridge; Dentofacial anomalies and malformations.
Functional description
Geistlich Bio-Oss Collagen is a mixture of 90% Geistlich Bio-Oss (granules 0.25 – 1 mm) and 10% porcine collagen fibres in a block form. The collagen facilitates adaptation to the defect site and is slowly resorbed within several weeks. The inorganic bone matrix has a macro– and microporous structure similar to human spongious bone & the formation and ingrowth of new bone at the implantation site is encouraged. In the course of time this is partially remodelled by osteoclasts and osteoblasts.
