Intended purpose

A manual, non-electrosurgical instrument used to obtain tissue specimens during flexible endoscopic procedures (e.g. gastroscopy, colonoscopy, enteroscopy) for histological/pathological examination. The device is introduced into the body through the working channel of an endoscope. It is typically a flexible metal coil with a pair of scissor-like cups with cutting edge rims, which are operated by a control handle at the proximal end of the instrument.
