Intended purpose

The CS Stapler is used throughout the alimentary tract for the creation of end-to-end, end-to-side and side-to-side anastomoses in both open and laparoscopic techniques. The CS Compact -CT/EA family of straight circular staplers is used in the alimentary tract for the creation of end-to-end or end–to-side, anastomoses in both open and laparoscopic techniques where extra-corporeal attachment of the anvil to staple housing trocar is indicated. The CS -CT/EA CS Compact EA range has been designed specifically for use in techniques utilizing Extra Corporeal attachment of the Anvil shaft to Anvil housing trocar. Specifically the design is utilized in the APPEAR techniquei1 where, depending on the individual patients body habitus, the Perineal space created by the surgeon restricts or interferes with the docking of Anvil shaft (A) to the stapler housing trocar (B). The Anvil shaft (A) has been extended in length allowing the operator to pass the anvil shaft, via an enterotomy (Note: the size of the enterotomy in the distal staple line which must be carefully monitored to ensure it does not exceed size of the standard staple trocar, failure to monitor this could compromise final integrity of anastomosis) in the centre or side of the distal stump staple line, through into the anal canal to complete docking extra corporeally, and under direct vision.
