Device Dossier for Target Detachable Coil - Prosthesis, internal, embolization, intravascular (Neurovascular embolization coil, Class III, sponsor…

Intended purpose

Target Coils are intended to endovascularly obstruct or occlude blood flow in vascular abnormalities of the neurovascular and peripheral vessels.

Functional description

The Target coils incorporate a length of multi-strand material through the centre of the coil to help resist stretching. Each coil type consists of a platinum-tungsten alloy coil attached to stainless steel delivery wire. The coil is delivered through the microcatheter to the site of the lesion via the vascular system. Detachment occurs through the flow of current to the coil's detachment zone and the subsequent electrolytic dissolution of a small portion of the delivery wire.
