- GMDN category: Open-surgery electrosurgical forceps, single-use
Intended purpose
Sterile, single-use tips used with a (separately supplied) reusable bipolar forcep handle. Indicated for cauterizing, coagulating, grasping, and manipulating tissue during general surgery, neurosurgery, ENT surgery, OB/GYN surgery, and maxillofacial/plastic surgery. Also indicated for cauterizing, coagulating, grasping, and manipulating soft tissue during spine surgery and orthopaedic surgery. Indications for use in OB/GYN surgery exclude contraceptive coagulation of fallopian tube tissue.
Functional description
Sterile, single use non-stick gold-plated tips. When used as part of a system, including handles and bipolar electrosurgical generator, the heat pipes within the shafts of the bipolar forceps continuously transfer excess heat away from the bipolar tips, allowing the electrode to maintain a low enough tip temperature to avoid sticking. The heat transfer away from the tip is not enough to significantly cool the tissue and coagulation is accomplished through heat generation in the tissue.
