Intended purpose

A sterile, rigid or semi-rigid tube (non-illuminating) designed to be inserted into the eye to facilitate simultaneous irrigation and aspiration of the interior of the eye during opthalmological surgery. It can be a dual or a single lume device that is attached to a suitable handpiece or it can be a one-piece interchangeable device that connects to a parent device or devices used to perform irrigation/aspiration functions (eg, phacoemulsification or vitrectomy systems), as well as manually-operated devices ( eg a hanging intravenous (IV) bag and a syringe). It is used in many anterior segment procedures, including cataract extraction. This is a single - use device.
