Intended purpose
A sterile, single-use rigid or semi-rigid tube (non-illuminating) designed to be inserted into the eye to facilitate simultaneous irrigation and aspiration of the interior of the eye during ophthalmic surgery. It can be a dual or a single lumen device that is attached to a suitable handpiece or it can be a one-piece interchangeable device that connects to a parent device or devices used to perform irrigation/aspiration functions such as phacoemulsification or vitrectomy systems. It is used in many anterior segment procedures, including cataract extraction.
