Intended purpose
A hand-held, sterile, single-use ophthalmic surgical instrument used to make incisions in eye tissues of either the actual eye or the surrounding tissues, during ophthalmic surgery. It is most commonly a one-piece instrument with a sharp cutting blade at the distal tip and a handle at the proximal end. The cutting tip may have a variety of blade shapes and dimensions, designed to facilitate the type of incision required, and they are most commonly (but not always) made of high-grade stainless steel.
