Intended purpose

The intended purpose of the heart positioner is to position the heart during beating heart coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery to enable direct visualization of the anastomotic site. This is accomplished by placing the device on the epicardial surface, applying vacuum, and positioning the heart for access to the target vessels.

Functional description

The heart positioners are used with tissue stabilizers during off?pump coronary artery bypass procedures to position and steady the heart for optimal access to coronary arteries. The device attaches to the OctoBase Retractor system and features an articulating arm and positioning head that can be adjusted and locked in place. Vacuum suction, controlled by a stopcock valve, secures the heart to enable subsequent use of a tissue stabilizer.
