Intended purpose
An artificial fluid or semifluid substance used as a long-term tamponade both during and following the operative treatment of severe retinal detachment. This device is typically less dense than the natural fluids of the eye and will realign the retina by exerting a physical force against it without flowing behind it through tears. It is typically removed after a period of time depending upon the clinical findings. This is a single-use device.
