Device Dossier for SURGICEL SNoW Absorbable Haemostat - Haemostatic agent, absorbable, non-collagen (Surgical plant polysaccharide haemostatic agent,…

Intended purpose

SURGICEL® SNoW ™ Absorbable Hemostat (Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose) is used adjunctively in surgical procedures to assist in the control of capillary, venous, and small arterial hemorrhage when ligation or other conventional methods of control are impractical or ineffective. Surgical Haemostats can be cut to size for endoscopic procedures.

Functional description

Sterile absorbable structured non-woven fabric prepared by controlled oxidation of regenerated cellulose. Strong, able to be sutured without fraying, suitable for endoscopic procedures. After saturation of haemostat with blood, it swells to a brownish or black gelatinous mass which aids in formation of a clot, thereby serving as a haemostatic adjunct in control of local haemorrhage. In addition the haemostat is bactericidal against a wide range of gram positive and negative organisms.
