Intended purpose

A metal sleeve that is typically used together with a trocar, which when assembled forms a compact instrument for puncturing body cavities to create a so-called port. It is commonly used in minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures. After insertion the trocar is withdrawn from the sleeve providing a working channel to the cavity. The sleeve, also known as a cannula housing, will typically be provided with shut-off valves for gas/fluid supply and sealing devices (e.g., dedicated seals/rings, caps, valves) to inhibit leakage of insufflation gas when the abdomen is distended but allow the entry of other instruments. It will have various dimensions and/or designs and is a reusable device
