Intended purpose

The burr hole valve incorporates a burr hole reservoir with a ball and cone pressure valve in series with a normal closed siphon control mechanism. This enables the valve to maintain intraventricular pressure within a normal physiological range regardless of a patient?s cerebrospinal fluid requirements or body position. Retrograde flow is prevented by a ball and cone. The burr hole valve may be adjusted by using a hand held battery powered instrument which allows the user to change the pressure setting of the valve non invasively without the need for radiographic conformation to address changing patients needs in the management of hydrocephalus.
