POLARIS® KIT PREATTACHED - Ventriculo-peritoneal/atrial shunt

Intended purpose

An implantable device intended to divert excessive cerebrospinal fluid from the brain ventricles to the peritoneal cavity, as a treatment for hydrocephalus.

Functional description

The Polaris® Kit Preattached comprises of: 1) an intracerebral ventricular catheter through which CSF flows; 2) an adjustable shunt valve which operates using a ball-in-cone mechanism; and 3) a peritoneal catheter that channels the CSF to the peritoneal cavity.
