- GMDN category: Wound hydrogel dressing, non-antimicrobial
- Sponsor: KCI Medical
Intended purpose
The dressing has been formulated and designed specifically to encourage wound bed preparation and granulation of chronic wounds, while minimising pain levels. The dressing helps to provide an environment for optimal wound healing by managing wound exudate levels and protecting against wound dehydration and external bacterial contamination. The gel provides both cushioning and absorption. The partially-hydrated nature of the dressing aids the process of autolytic debridement. Under the supervision of a healthcare professional, the dressing may be used for the management of chronic wounds, on painful wounds and skin conditions such as leg ulcers, radiation therapy damage, burns and scalds. It may be used on low-exuding and non-exuding wounds to assist in autolytic debridement by hydration of necrotic and sloughy tissue and for absorption of exudate. It may be used on moderately exuding wounds, although in such cases it may be preferable to cut the dressing to fit within the wound margins. It may be used with secondary dressings where appropriate. The dressing can be used under compression.
