Artificial larynx

Device Category Dossier for Artificial larynx. Australian ARTG records, sponsors, device class — compiled by arcimedes.

Electrolarynx devices are battery-powered artificial larynges applied externally and intended for use in the absence of the larynx to produce sound. When held against the skin in the area of the voicebox or inserted via a tube into the oral cavity, the device generates mechanical vibrations which resonate in the oral and nasal cavities and can be modulated by the tongue and lips to allow speech production. These devices are used in patients who have lost or damaged their larynx to generate voice.
