Cardiac occluders are devices for percutaneous, transcatheter closure of cardiac structures , mechanically blocking abnormal communications such as septal defects or fenestrations . They are used clinically in patients with atrial septal defects presenting with right ventricular volume overload, in those with muscular ventricular septal defects, and in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation to prevent thromboembolic complications .
