Central venous catheters provide short or long term access to the central venous system , and are designed for the administration of intravenous fluids, blood products, drugs, and parenteral nutrition solutions, as well as blood withdrawal, power injection of contrast media, and central venous pressure monitoring . These devices are indicated for accessing the central venous system in patients requiring sustained vascular access for therapeutic delivery and haemodynamic assessment.
