Corneal trephines are sharp, bevelled, hollow cylinders with a circular, saw-like working edge that are attached to manually rotated handles or powered rotary surgical handpieces to cut and remove circular sections of tissue. These ophthalmic surgical blades are used to remove corneal buttons and/or sclera from patients to prepare for graft implantation, or from cadaveric donors to obtain grafts.
