Ultrasonic probe covers are protective sheaths placed over diagnostic ultrasound transducer probes , which provide a physical barrier for protection against the effects of environmental exposure and/or to maintain a required hygienic level . These covers enable use of the transducer in scanning and needle-guided procedures for body surface, endocavity, and intra-operative diagnostic ultrasound whilst helping to prevent transfer of microorganisms, body fluids, and particulate material to the patient and healthcare worker during reuse of the transducer .
