Intramedullary femoral nails are solid or cannulated rods made of metal or other material that, when inserted into the intramedullary canal of the femur, act as immobilisation devices to hold ends of a fractured bone in place. These devices are used for intramedullary treatment of fractures and stabilisation after tumour resection in the proximal femur and shaft area.
