Bone-conduction hearing implants are surgically placed in the temporal and mastoid bone area where they receive signals from an external sound processor, transform those signals into vibrations, and transmit the vibrations through skull bone to the inner ear. These devices are used to improve hearing for patients with conductive or mixed hearing losses, whether fitted unilaterally or bilaterally, or for those with single-sided deafness.
