Laryngoscopes for intubation are hand-held devices with a handle and interchangeable hinged blade of curved or straight design, each fitted with a built-in light source such as a light bulb or fibreoptic light to illuminate the laryngeal area. They are used to assist patient intubation by enabling insertion of an endotracheal tube under direct vision through the vocal cords into the trachea.
