Light sources are devices that provide light via fibreoptic cables to devices used for examinations and procedures , with high intensity light generation often called cold light that is transferred to attached devices such as loupes or headbands for use during patient treatment . These sources enable surgeons to perform minimally invasive and other surgical procedures requiring visible and near infrared fluorescence imaging , including fluorescence-guided surgery with surgical microscopes and fluorophores .
