Inflatable garments in the form of stockings, sleeves, or suits applied externally to the limbs apply pressure to the extremities through sequential inflation of several chambers as part of a compression system to promote venous blood flow. The increased venous blood flow helps to treat or prevent oedema, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism in non-ambulatory patients or patients at risk.
