Foot orthoses are devices designed to encompass the whole or part of the foot or function as plantar inserts, constructed from metal, synthetic, and/or textile materials, and intended to provide rigid or semi-rigid correction of the foot for persons with orthopaedic deformities or injuries, or to offload and redistribute foot pressures to improve blood flow and help heal diabetic foot ulcers or postsurgical wounds. These devices are used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions of the lower limb such as Achilles tendon pain and calf muscle pain, and may also be used in neonatal populations to correct specific deformities.
