Pressure alleviation mattress systems consist of a pressure pad and control unit (pump) designed to distribute pressure between the patient and the contact surface over a large area by alternately changing pressure levels in the cells of the pad. These devices are used to prevent pressure injuries in patients at very high risk, particularly those with significant mobility restrictions or when repositioning is difficult, dangerous or inappropriate.
