Pressure alleviation pads are cushioning devices constructed as underlays, mattresses, pads or skins that distribute force across body surfaces to reduce localised pressure. They are used to prevent pressure sores and decubitus ulcers in patients undergoing prolonged immobilisation, surgery, or lengthy treatments, as well as in disabled and infirm individuals confined to sitting or lying positions.
