Stocking, stockinet

Stockinet comprises knitted, seamless tubing open at both ends , and functions as protective padding under plaster of Paris and synthetic casts, for support and retention of dressings and other devices, and to provide light compression . The device protects the patient's limb from possible wrinkling, pinching and shearing of the skin and soft tissues , with applications in surgical procedures requiring temporary occlusion of blood flow in a patient's extremities and protection of skin under orthopaedic casts, splints or bandages .
