Transparent adhesive film dressings are made of thin synthetic polymer material covered on one side with pressure-sensitive adhesive , forming a barrier to protect superficial skin wounds . These single-use dressings are used to protect and reduce the risk of infection at minor wounds such as cuts, grazes and stitches , and can also be applied to cover cold sores to prevent transmission of infection and provide a favourable environment to assist healing .
