Intramedullary nails are rods made of metal or other material implanted into the intramedullary canal of the tibia to immobilise the ends of a fractured bone in position to promote healing. These devices are used to immobilise fractured tibiae, support bone in the presence of pathological conditions, or facilitate knee arthrodesis.
