Traction devices apply tensile force to create distraction on body parts such as the cervical or lumbar vertebrae by means of harnesses attached to the head or pelvic area, and may operate as static units or with control mechanisms to adjust the traction force transmitted via cords. These devices are used in spinal conditions to widen intervertebral spaces in cases such as prolapsed intervertebral discs, facet joint osteoarthritis, disc protrusion, or degenerative disc disease.
