Transcranial magnetic stimulation systems use non-invasive, brief duration rapidly alternating or pulsed magnetic fields to induce electrical currents at discrete regions of the cerebral cortex. These devices are indicated for treatment of major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder in adults, including those who have failed to respond adequately to antidepressant medication, and may also be used for reducing anxiety symptoms or treating binge eating disorder.
