Ear ventilation tubes are small tubular implants made from biocompatible materials such as silicone elastomer, fluoroplastic, polyethylene, or titanium that are surgically inserted through an incision in the tympanic membrane. They are used to ventilate the middle ear and facilitate drainage of fluids in patients with recurrent otitis media or middle ear effusion.
