Absorbent, carbon dioxide

Intended purpose

An absorbent material (granules of treated soda lime) that is placed into a carbon-dioxide absorber, to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) by chemical reaction from the exhaled gases in a patient's closed circle breathing system. The appearance of a colour change confirms the activity of the material and indicates the progress of the carbon dioxide adsorption. During use, changes in colour will start to develop and will deepen in intensity to indicate exhaustion of the absorbent material.
