Intended purpose
MatriDerm is used in combination with autologous split-thickness skin grafts for the reconstruction of deep dermal defects and full-thickness skin wounds in plastic reconstructive surgery and in the surgical treatment of burns, trauma and dermatological diseases. It may also be used in the treatment of poorly healing wounds requiring skin grafts (e.g. chronic wounds); for the reconstruction of mucosal defects and also under intact skin for the temporary separation of tissues, thereby preventing adherence, especially of tendons and their surrounding connective tissue, after injuries or surgical procedures. The aim of treatment with Matriderm is to construct a neodermis,to improve the quality of reconstituted tissue, reduce scarring, prevent wound contraction and restore functionality.
Functional description
MatriDerm serves as a scaffold for tissue regeneration and modulates the formation of scar tissue. MatriDerm has excellent haemostyptic properties and thus reduces the risk of subgraft haematoma, for example,between the matrix and the wound bed. In addition, MatriDerm supports orderly healing and acts as a temporary adhesion barrier. MatriDerm is a three-dimensional matrix composed of native, structurally intact collagen fibrils and elastin.
