Intended purpose

A packaged collection of items that includes an externally placed tube that can be attached to an intracranial ventricular catheter to allow sterile drainage and measurement of cerebrospinal fluid.

Functional description

The External Drainage and Monitoring System (EDMS)is a complete system for externally draining and monitoring cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and monitoring intracranial pressure (ICP). This assists in reducing ICP; monitoring CSF chemistry, cytology, and physiology; and providing temporary CSF drainage in patients with infected cerebrospinal fluid shunts.
