The ultrasonic probe is a held-hand device moved from location to location on the intact surface of a patient's body during imaging applications. It steers, focuses and detects the ultrasound beam and resulting echoes mechanically or electronically. Typically used with coupling gels to ensure adequate contact with the patient.
