- GMDN category: Orthopaedic cement compressor
Intended purpose
A device used for the compression of orthopaedic bone cement when this is used during a total hip replacement procedure (within the acetabulum and/or femur) in order to optimise the interdigitation of the cement into the inner bone structure improving fixation of the device. It is typically made of a compressible silicone rubber which conforms to the shape of the cut bone creating a good seal. Cement may be injected through the pressurizer into the bone cavity using an appropriate syringe and pressure is applied with the use of a backplate or a stainless steel handle. This is a single-use device.
