Intended purpose

An absorbable suture intended for general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in ophthalmic surgery, peripheral nerve anastomosis and microsurgery for vessels less than 2mm diameter.

Functional description

An absorbable, braided, synthetic suture composed of a co-polymer made from 90% Glycolide and 10% Lactide attached to a stainless steel needles of varying types and sizes. Progressive loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption occurs by means of hydrolysis. Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength followed by loss of mass all of the original tensile strength is lost between 4 and 5 weeks post implantation.
