Absorbable sutures are intended for soft tissue approximation and ligation, including use in ophthalmic surgery, peripheral nerve anastomosis and microsurgery for vessels less than 2mm diameter. These sutures are particularly useful for skin closure in paediatric surgery, episiotomies, circumcision and closure of oral mucosa where rapid absorption of the suture would be beneficial.
