Balloon guide catheter systems are intravascular devices placed in the internal carotid artery that facilitate insertion and guidance of catheters into selected blood vessels in the neurovasculature whilst providing temporary vascular occlusion through an inflatable balloon. These devices are used clinically to provide temporary assistance for coil embolisation of intracranial aneurysms.
