Metal-backed patella prosthesis

Patellar components are devices intended to replace the natural patella as part of a total knee joint , and they are designed to articulate with a prosthetic distal femoral component and are implanted on the back of the natural patella with or without bone cement . These devices are used to treat painful, disabling joint disease of the knee resulting from noninflammatory degenerative joint disease , and they are also indicated for revision total knee arthroplasty with inadequate patellar bone stock and for treatment of patellar fracture after total knee arthroplasty .
