Metallic femoral head prosthesis

Device Category Dossier for Metallic femoral head prosthesis. Australian ARTG records, sponsors, device class — compiled by arcimedes.

Metallic femoral heads are components of total or hemi hip arthroplasty , made of CrCoMo alloy and designed to be assembled on a femoral stem taper . These devices replace the damaged hip joint articulation in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty where there is sufficient sound bone to support the components, or in hemi hip arthroplasty where the natural acetabulum is satisfactory and femoral bone is adequate to seat and support the femoral stem , typically for advanced joint degeneration from arthritic, rheumatic, dysplastic or post-traumatic pathologies, fractures, avascular necrosis, or following unsuccessful prior joint interventions .
